Our Innovations
For over three decades, our engineering team in Mumbai has been quietly rethinking what a fume hood can do. The result is a set of technologies you simply won't find on any other hood in the market. They make labs safer for the people working in them, easier on the facilities team running them, and far less expensive to operate year after year. The three innovations on this page are at the heart of every modern LabGuard fume hood.

Intelligent Containment
01. SmartSash™
A sash system that looks out for you, even when you forget to.
In a busy lab, sashes get left open. It happens to everyone. A researcher steps away to take a call, gets pulled into a meeting, or simply moves on to the next task and the hood keeps drawing conditioned air out of the room for hours. SmartSash was built to solve exactly this problem. It continuously senses operator presence and sash position, and when it detects that the hood has been left unattended, it gently returns the sash to its safest closed position on its own.
When the sash is fully closed, containment is absolute. There is effectively zero chance of fugitive emissions escaping into the lab environment. And because the hood is now drawing minimum air, every minute the sash stays closed translates directly into energy savings. Pair SmartSash with QuantumFlow or any variable air volume system and those savings compound dramatically over the life of the hood.
The sash itself is a pleasure to use. It glides smoothly along the full viewing height, the counterbalance is precisely tuned, and failsafe mechanics ensure it will never come crashing down. Safety, in other words, that doesn't get in the way of the work.
Key benefits
Automatic closure when the hood is left unattended
Foot operated switch to lift the sash
Adjustable delay timing
Zero leakage when fully sealed
Multiplies the energy savings of any VAV system
Smooth, full-height sash travel with failsafe operation
Variable Air Volume Control
02. QuantumFlow™
Airflow that thinks for itself.
Conventional fume hoods pull the same volume of air whether someone is actively working at them or whether they have been sitting idle for three hours. That is a significant amount of conditioned air being exhausted out of the building for no reason at all.
QuantumFlow changes this. It is LabGuard's own variable air volume control system, and it modulates exhaust volume in real time based on what the hood actually needs at that moment. When the sash is wide open and the researcher is mid experiment, QuantumFlow delivers full face velocity for complete safety. When the sash drops, the system instantly throttles back. When the hood is closed and idle, it draws only the minimum required to maintain containment.
The transitions are smooth and silent, and the user never notices a thing. What the facilities team notices, though, is the bill at the end of the month. Blower energy demand drops sharply. HVAC loads ease across the entire building. And because QuantumFlow is engineered in house and built into the hood from day one, it integrates seamlessly with SmartSash and the rest of the LabGuard control architecture. There are no third party parts, no compatibility headaches, and no finger pointing if something needs servicing.
Key benefits
Real time airflow modulation based on hood activity
Substantial reduction in blower and HVAC energy consumption
Native integration with SmartSash and LabGuard controls
Engineered, built, and serviced in house
Aerodynamic Flow Design
03. Active Kinetics™
Full containment safety at a fraction of the airflow.
Most fume hoods rely on brute force. Push enough air through the hood and contaminants will be carried away. The problem is that all that air costs money to move, costs money to condition, and requires larger blowers and bigger ducts to handle. Active Kinetics takes a smarter approach.
It is a sculpted internal flow geometry, developed and refined over years of testing in our own facility, that organises the air inside the hood into stable, predictable patterns. Those patterns capture and carry contaminants efficiently, even when the total volume of air being moved is significantly lower than a conventional hood would require. The savings ripple outward through the entire lab build. Smaller AHU. Smaller exhaust blowers. Smaller ducts. Lower ducting costs. Lower installation costs. And once the lab is up and running, a permanent 30% to 40% reduction in the energy required to keep every hood operating safely.
The technology has been independently tested and certified to meet the strictest international containment standards, including ASHRAE 110:2016 and EN 14175:2003. Active Kinetics is not an upgrade or an optional extra. It comes standard on every Eka series fume hood we make.
